About Us

Emily’s Candles started back in 2002 while I was on maternity leave with my oldest daughter. I had a dream I was making candles so I started researching it and quickly began to test out my first batches (i still have the first few candles I ever made!)  I started making candles in my kitchen using paraffin wax, but switched to 100% soy wax early on after discovering how much better I liked the way it burned.

Over the years, my little candle business has grown and changed quite a bit! I still make plenty of traditional scents, but my favorite part is coming up with my own unique fragrance blends inspired by mythology, folklore, fairy tales, and history.

I love researching old stories, legends, characters, and places and figuring out how to turn them into a scent. Sometimes that means blending several different fragrances until I get just what I’m imagining. Whether it’s a Greek goddess, an enchanted forest, or a medieval tavern, I want each candle to have its own personality and tell a little story.

These days, you’ll find me mostly at Renaissance faires, where I love sharing my candles and the stories behind them.

After almost 25 years, I’m still hand-pouring every candle myself, experimenting with new combinations, and coming up with more ideas than I know what to do with!
